October 17, through October 23, 2010, is National Teen Driver Safety Week.  State Farm, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, petitioned Congress in 2007, to establish this promotion of safe teen driving on the third week of October every year.  To emphasize this program, The Anthony Telesca Memorial Foundation, with the help of State Farm Volunteers, has offered a Driver Ed Guest Speaker Program to schools in the Lenape Regional High School District, and The Burlington County Institute of Technology, during NTDSW.  Guest speakers spend a day in the driver ed class room, showing a DVD on teen driving, and interacting with students on driver distractions and recommendations for safe driving.

It's hard to believe that December 5, 2010, will be the 10th anniversary of Anthony's passing.  Because of this milestone, the Board has decided to do something special in Anthony's memory.  We have collaborated with two other foundations, The Ryan Fitzpatrick Memorial, and the Anthony Ferrace Memorial, to expand a program of providing driver simulators to enhance teen driver education classroom instruction in the Lenape Regional High School District.   In 2009, the Fitzpatrick family donated 4 driver simulators to Shawnee HS, and the Farrace family donated 4 units to Cherokee HS.  In 2010, the goal is to provide 4 units for Lenape and 4 units for Seneca.  The Anthony Telesca Memorial Foundation committed to provide 2 of these units, which will go to Seneca High School, and will be appropriately inscribed with Anthony's name.  Delivery is projected for mid November 2010, and will benefit thousands of students over the years.

With the help of generous grants from the State Farm Companies Foundation, Commerce Bank Community Relations, and many small business and individual supporters in our area, The Foundation is offering ten $1,000 scholarships in the Spring of 2010. College bound graduating seniors from Cherokee, Lenape, Seneca, and Shawnee High Schools, as well as The Burlington County Institute of Technology are eligible. The Anthony Telesca Foundation will give two $1,000 scholarships at each school. Students should see their Scholarship Coordinator to obtain more details and guidelines.

One of our coporate supporters, South Jersey Driving School, celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2009.  Founded in 1983, by Tony Caracci, South Jersey Driving school is located at 300 Chester Avenue in Moorestown, NJ.  Congratulations to Tony and Mary Beth Caracci on this outstanding accomplishment.

As is our custom, The Foundation has asked the Lenape Regional High School District to declare December 2007, as Teenage Driver Safety Awareness Month. This is the 6th year that the District has cooperated with the Foundation to make students aware that "teens who drive safe...stay alive".

The Foundation has solicted the help of State Farm Insurance Volunteers to participate in a Guest Speaker Program during December. State Farm Volunteers will spend a day at each High School in The Lenape District, and BCIT, addressing Driver Ed Classes with a teen safe driving information.

The Anthony Telesca Memorial Foundation will help Students Against Destructive Decisions ( SADD ) service organizations promote "Red Ribbon Days" in late December. This is a traditional SADD program to remind students, faculty, and school adminstrators to drive safely over the Christmas Holidays. The Foundation's major sponsor, Commerce Bank, will provide thousands of pocket size calenders with a safe driving message on the reverse side, which SADD Students place under the wiper blade of every car in the schools parking lots.
